(Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs)

The University of Michigan and the State of Michigan partner with Southfield and Ypsilanti School Districts to promote college readiness for middle and high school students (referred to as futurez) and their parents. The program has followed the graduating class of 2017 since they were in 7th grade and will continue through their first year of college.

The vision of GEAR UP is for futurez to make informed decisions about their life after high school, see higher education as a viable option, have the knowledge support and tools to pursue and achieve their goals and work toward social change.

College students: Have you thought about mentoring high school students, giving them the support you had, or wish you had prior to college enrollment? You can join GEAR UP as a student leader and be trained to facilitate workshops for developing personal, social and academic skills.
