Tutoring

SuccessConnects offers tutoring in the most commonly challenging courses at U-M. Tutors work with students one-on-one for an hour weekly during the Fall and Winter semesters.

Tutors are current U-M students who have previously taken the courses they provide help with. Availability is limited, and sign-up is first come, first serve.

Fall 2024 tutoring has started!

We assign tutors on a rolling basis, and you will hear from us as soon as possible.  The tutor-scholar match is based on subject availability and tutor capacity.  We cannot guarantee a match but work hard to respond to requests.

Please read the expectations below before signing up!

  • Tutors and scholars will commit to a regular schedule of meeting at least weekly for one hour per session.
  • Tutoring will occur in one-on-one sessions.
  • Tutor and scholar must meet in person or through an approved virtual platform (Google Meet or Zoom)
  • Sessions should occur at a reasonable time for both tutor and scholar.
  • SuccessConnects tutoring serves students who register for the program and are participating with a coach to receive broader support and resources for success.

Students seeking tutorial assistance must commit to the following:

  • Honor the time commitment to meet with the tutor as scheduled and agreed upon.
  • Prepare before tutoring sessions by identifying challenging areas. Bring homework and books and any materials utilized in class or study routines.
  • Scholars are expected to HONOR ALL SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS, except in times of an emergency, and they are expected to cancel their appointment at least 24 hours before the start of their session if necessary.

If a scholar fails to keep a tutoring appointment and has not provided notification and/or if there have been multiple canceled or missed sessions, the scholar will no longer be able to utilize the tutorial services.

  • Tutors are expected to approach tutoring in a professional manner, including respectfulness, follow-through, dependability, and professional ethics.
  • Tutors must abide by privacy and confidentiality guidelines.
