Asian Student Celebration

History

The Asian Student Celebration, originally known as the Asian & Pacific Islander Celebration, was first held in April 2018. It highlights the experiences, cultures, and contributions of East Asian, South Asian, and Southeast Asian communities at the University of Michigan while recognizing the accomplishments of participating students.

The celebration brings together a wide range of communities across campus, creating space for connection across diverse lived experiences among students, staff, faculty, families, and guests. While the celebration centers Asian experiences, it is open to all students and members of the university community who wish to participate.

The Asian Student Celebration Student Committee leads the planning of this annual event.

Mission

The Asian Student Celebration highlights the shared connections and diverse experiences associated with Asian communities while welcoming all participants who choose to engage. It reflects the university’s commitment to fostering an inclusive campus environment.

The ceremony commemorates the accomplishments of participating students and recognizes faculty and staff who support student success. Through this celebration, OAMI and the Asian Student Planning Committee continue a tradition of creating spaces that honor cultural expression and community across the university. The event is open to all students and members of the university community who wish to participate, engage, and celebrate in this space.
