Connect with an Academic Success Partner (ASP)
Second-year scholars are coached by an Academic Success Partner (ASP) - a junior or senior-level student with exceptional academic and leadership skills.
Your ASP will...
- be a peer coach with insight into resources and opportunities most relevant to you
- have the flexibility to accommodate your schedule and can meet around campus
- connect you with other scholars and the broader university community
Are you in your 3rd year of undergrad or higher?
Do you want to give back?
Meet the 2025-2026 Academic Success Partners!

Anthony
3rd Year
Computer Science, minor in English
As a First Gen student, the transition to college was overwhelming, and I found so much support through the First-Gen Gateway. I became an ASP because I hope to give back to the community that’s supported me so heavily, and to help fellow students with their transition. A lil fun fact about me is I used to play the electric bass.

Bushra
3rd Year
Biology, Health and Society
I was interested in becoming an ASP because as a previous Success Connects’ scholar myself, I found my mentor to be really helpful and I also wanted to do the same. A fun fact about me is that I enjoy learning new languages.

Jihyun
4th Year
Economics
I became an ASP to help out younger students as much as possible since I was in their shoes at one point. A fun fact is that I do not eat airplane food regardless of how long the flight is.

King
3rd Year
Urban Technology, minor in Sustainibility
As someone who started their freshman year during the second semester(winter), I know just how important it is to have someone to turn to when you're feeling lost. I want to be able to pass on the guidance that was passed on to me towards future scholars. One of my favorite things to do in my free time is read manhwa/webtoon and watch anime.

Julia
4th Year
Public Policy, minor in Real Estate Development and Energy (Pre-Law track)
I chose to become an ASP because I truly believe in the power of investing in others, just as so many have generously invested in me. My own academic journey has been filled with challenges and growth, and I feel called to help others navigate their path. I enjoy traveling, cooking, and reading.

Kenyatta
4th Year
Urban Technology with a minor in Real Estate Development
As a Black male from Detroit, I’ve developed a diligent mindset shaped by my community. Growing up in Detroit sparked my passion for community development, real estate, and poverty alleviation. As an ASP, I hope to support students who are in the same position I once was as a lowerclassman. My goal is to offer advice, share resources, and help ease the various challenges that come with navigating life at the University of Michigan. A fun fact about me is that I love to travel and within the next five years, I plan to visit 10 different countries.

Kyra
4th Year
Biomedical Engineering
As an ASP I hope to provide support to scholars and a space for them to grow as they face obstacles. I had a community that helped me navigate college and want to be the person to establish a successful transition. I understand how overwhelming it is to attend college and try to balance your academics and social experience. I hope to inspire students as they continue their journey through life. A fun fact about me is, I enjoy cooking, traveling, and roller skating.

Leilani
3rd Year
Gender & Health on the Pre-PA track
I became an ASP because I am a first-generation college student and understand the challenges that come with this identity. I hope to coach students through the same obstacles I have faced, whether it’s finding a sense of community, academic challenges, or even navigating such a large place like UM. I’m eager to support students in all aspects of their undergraduate years! A fun fact about me is that I had three businesses in high school.

Minnet
3rd Year
Neuroscience (pre-health track) with a minor in Music
I became an ASP to help sophomores find career/academic opportunities and provide support on campus. I understand how stressful it can be navigating college life especially as a pre-health student. I hope to give back to the program & help students in any way I can to support their academic pathways and journey to success! A fun fact about me is that my family had a pet turtle named ጎቢየ (Gobiye) in Eritrea.

Nyla
3rd Year
Art and Design, minor in UX Design
I’m a junior studying Art and Design with a minor in UX Design. I understand how overwhelming the transition to college can be: navigating new opportunities, resources, and expectations isn't always easy. I love being able to help people in whatever way I can and as an Academic Success Partner (ASP) I can do that. My goal is to help bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be. Together, let's build a supportive community that uplifts one another and empowers each of us to reach our full potential.

Om
3rd Year
Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience with a Business Minor (pre-med track)
As an ASP, I strive to support fellow students in their academic journeys by providing them with a comfortable space to share their challenges and grow on a path of holistic success. Outside of classes, I enjoy travelling and cooking up new recipes!

Travis
4th Year
Mechanical Engineering
A fun fact about me is that I am double-jointed in most of my joints. I understand that I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and opportunities provided by others. I wanted to become an ASP to be there for scholars just as others have been there for me.

Tyree
4th Year
FTVM
As a first-gen student at the University of Michigan, I became ASP because I have benefited from Success Connects in so many ways, and I want to equip scholars with the tools and resources that will help them thrive throughout their time here. Every student that I support, I try to have a genuine down-to-earth, and compassionate approach to every interaction. I love conversations about creativity, growth mindset, and how to best find a balance between school and being intentional about your free time.

Miao Zheng
3rd Year
Biochemistry
I became an ASP because I want to provide support to students and help them navigate through their academics and extracurricular activities. I was in their place and want to be there as a support system for them. A fun fact about me is that I had a pet onion.
