SuccessConnects Tutors
If you're struggling with a particular class or assignment, a peer tutor is a great way to get help. Working with a tutor, you'll get one-on-one support to work through problems and better grasp the material. You'll also see these friendly faces at the Study Tables in Shapiro.
If you're interested in being a tutor, the application opens each year in the middle of the winter semester. Contact Sharon Burch ([email protected]) for more information.
Meet the 2024-2025 SuccessConnects tutors!

I think tutoring is one of the most effective methods to assist others. It offers advantages to both the tutor and the one being tutored. By serving as a tutor, I can support someone in need while also enhancing my own ability to help others.

I began my tutoring journey before college, starting as an English tutor for an international ESL student. Now, as a tutor for OAMI, I continue to teach others and thoroughly enjoy the process as there is so much to learn from new perspectives. I believe mentorship is a valuable resource for student success and am happy to be able to share my experiences with students through SuccessConnects!

I wanted to be a tutor because I have a passion for giving back and helping others. I have always valued mentorship and want to be someone people can reach out to and help them succeed in their classes!

I began my time at OAMI last year with a SuccessConnects coach. I was able to learn a lot from my coaches and the resources available there, and it inspired me to give back to my community in a similar way. I am excited to be back for another year of SuccessConnects and as a tutor. I enjoyed the classes I have taken so far, and look forward to passing along some of my experiences and knowledge to others that may benefit from them!

I am on the pre-medical track. I wanted to tutor because in the past, I have always found tutoring to be an extremely valuable resource in succeeding in the courses here at Michigan, and I want to help students who were in a similar position as me who also felt overwhelmed by some of the material and didn't know even where to begin. I also find tutoring to be a great opportunity to build meaningful connections with students and help them to navigate other areas of school outside of the classroom as well!

Hi! Im a Rodrigo, a senior currently studying computer science. I’ve been a tutor for OAMI for a year, mostly helping students out with their EECS courses and am now the tutor admin as well. When I am not tutoring or coding my own work, I like to play the guitar.

I remember how challenging the STEM coursework at Michigan was, especially freshman year since we had so much support in high school but the big classes in college were overwhelming. I wanted to help out students who feel similarly because a little can go a long way and just talking out a question with a tutor can help them understand concepts a lot better.

I had the support of coaching in my freshman year and I want to be able to pay the support that I received forward. I am very passionate about giving back to disenfranchised communities and I strive to be a resource to others in any way that I can be.
