This free concert by the campuswide orchestra for members of the U-M medical health and science community will feature the music of William Grant Still one of America's foremost African-American composers of classical music as well as Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 with its theme of "ultimate victory through strife." The program also includes Gabriel Fauré's suite from Pelleas et Melisande. The LSO will be introduced by its co-founder Dr. David J. Brown the U-M Medical School’s Associate Vice President and Associate Dean for Health Equity and Inclusion. The LSO will be led by music director Luca Antonucci assisted by Sara Aldana. Both are students in the orchestral conducting graduate program at the U-M School of Music Theatre & Dance. The conductors will give a pre-concert talk at 3:15 p.m. in the lower level of the building. The performance is free and open to the public no tickets are required. The main hall will open for seating at 3 p.m. Masks are recommended.
